Some difficulty iias been experienced in finding a suitable Scoutmaster, and it is prouable that Mr Ford Trill take' up the work Jiimseh:. Waixewa Troop. I here have been a number ot changes in officers -in the Wairewa Troop recently. Mr George Fairweather, who has been Scoutmaster, resigned, as he has left the district. His resignation will be a great loss to the Little River Scouts, as he has always taken a keen interest in Scouting, and his services have been greatly appreciated by the committee there. The Rev. R. D. Hay, who lias been acting as Scoutmaster, has been asked to accept tho position ?? H 1? usual three mouths' probation. Mr Menaughton. having left the district also, Mr Lewthwaite has been appointed in his place. Firemen's Badges. The iollowing boys from the Ric:carton Troop have passed for their firemen s badges:— A. Hamilton, M. Cheeseman, D. Leith. R. Rose, I'J. Rountree. W. Cook, D. Williams, I'. Buckingham, K. Nelson, and L. , Woods. j Chief Commissioner Visits Cubs. | On Monday evening the Cambridge j I terraco pack held a parents' evening, , j when exhibitions of Cub games and I practices were carried out to show the j parents how a Cub pack works. In spite of the bad weather, there were i over 40 adults present in the hall, and about 20 Cubs. The pack was honoured I by a visit from the Dominion Chief i Commissioner, Dr. P. Clennell Fen- 1 wick.G'.M.G. At 7.30 p. 111. the Chief Commissioner, accompanied by Mrs Fenwick an<l Commissioner Furby, and Mrs Furby, arrived, and were received by Cub- i master K. Scotter and Mrs A. N". Scot-1 ter, on behalf of the Pack and the Com-; mitteo. The Cubs then gave the Grand Howl in line style. The Pack was | then inspected by the Chief Commissioner, who paid particular attention to their personal cleanliness. His inspection of knees was most thorough, and although it was quite unexpected very few knees were found to be other than clean. The Chief Commissioner j then briefly addressed the Cubs and | parents, thanking the latter for their j interest in tlie boys and their work j in tho movement. " ' The Chief Commissioner, having con- ! sented to'become Chief of the Jungle, ! he was duly initiated into tho Pack I and given the name of "Hathi," the Cub name for the elephant king of the , jungle. Several Cubs were then j brought forward into the Cub Circle to receive their Cub names. They were Arthur McLachlan, "Rikki-Tikki Tavi," for Helpfulness; Alan McLachlan, "Mowgli" for Cheerfulness; Billy Jones, "Toomai" for Nimbleness; Irvine Major, "Hiawatha,"' foV Handi- | crafts, and Adrian Cross. "Mang," for j duty.' First Stars were then presented ! by Mrs Fenwick. Mrs Furby (Mowgli). Aunt Pat of 3YA, and Commissioner Furby to Derek Davis, Colin Good, Keith Robins, and Jim Poole. A camp-fire sing-song and supper conelua- j ed the evening r s entertainment. ' ' Associated with Miss Sootter, who | has charge of tho Pack, were A.C.M.'s | Bunt and Anderson. Visiting Cub officers present, besides the official party, ! were: Mr J. R. Middleton, Actinp- j Dominion Akela Leader, D.C.M. J. j Powell, C.M.'s Carew and Renwick, anl i A.C.M. Kennedy. Scouters' Monthly Meeting. j The monthly meeting of the. Scout.-r j was held on Saturday last at the To. H rooms. A very interesting discus- i sion followed a lantern talk by Commissioner Rich on "Summer Camps.'" Imperial Headquarters' Scheme for Standard Camps was discussed and those present expressed their intention of working under the scheme. A valu- | able feature 0/ the discussion was the j exchanging of ideas and experiences in | widely different types of camps. The j next meeting will be held on Septem- j ber 26th in the Toe H Rooms. j Papanui Camping Tour. A party <Sf four Papanui Scouts and Commissioner Rich and their Scoutmaster had a very enjoyable car tour last week in South Canterbury. The party met the Rakaia Scouts at a lantern talk held in the Town Hlall on Tuesday evening, and at supper afterwards. Next the trip .was continued to Fairlie, where the party stayed at the enipty Vicarage. On Thursday Timaru was visited and local Scouts met at the St. Mary's Scout Den. The Scout Den is arranged into patrol corners. The proceeds of one corner, where can© furniture is made, are devoted to charity, and a good sum has been raised'by the local Scouts in this way. On Friclay the. Papanui Scouts returned to Fairlie, leaving there after 7 p.m., and arriving at Papanui at 1 a.m. on .Saturday. In spite of their j strenuous tour and late night the boys turned • out at 9 a.m. for the Papanui j Pound Scheme collection. j
