At a meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council, held on Monday evening, the chairman of Reserves, Or. A.. E. Lawry, submitted a report from the j gardener on the work done in the vtui- | ous reserves. The report stated that the fence at the pier had been trimmed and - the old growth removed, while a rockery had been rebuilt. The prize-winners at the weekly «<,nl evening held on Thursday by the New Brighton School Committee Avere Mesdaines Perrin and Kobinson and Messrs Hurrell, H. Kobinson, and Lareombe. At the School Committee meeting on Tuesday night it was stated that over £2 10s had been made out of these weekly evenings, and this was considered quite satisfactory. Personal. Park road is being scarified and rolled. Unfortunately the northern half of., this road is not metalled in the I centre, and traffic going northwards keep to the centre instead of the left of the road. Apparently more efficiency will, result. by tie Tramway Board and Hie Borough Council working in unison. The Board, it appears, has withdrawn its gang and the Council is now undertaking the whole work of rolling and grading Bowhill road and Rooltwood Avenue, while the Board seemingly is to supply the necessary metal. Bowhill road on Friday presented a busy thoroughfare with buses, trucks, and road-making plant trying to avoid each other. No. 5 Scheme men are usefully engaged in this work. Street Lighting. Several new street lights have been installed by the present Council in North Brighton, Bawhiti Domain, and in Withell's Island. A. light o-n the Esplanade at May street and another at Fox street in South Brighton .are urgently required. Brighton Terrace. Considerable work has been under>tftken in. the ' formation of a footpath on the " south ' side of Withell's Island and a once neglected locality is already showing signs of remarkable improvement by means of the ifo, 5. Rustic Fence. Good progress has been made in the erection of the rustic fence ..on the West and north sides of the sports ground in Rawhiti Domain. Several entrances have been provided for the supporters of the various hockey, Kugby, and Soccer clubs. Bose cuttings, which were given by an appreciative ratepayer, are now being planted. Visitors speak well of the improvements feeing effected in the Domain and elsewhere in the borough. Basketball Ground. ''Arrangements were made between the North Brighton School Committee and the Borough Council whereby the latter was to top-dress and spray the. New Brighton basketball ground. .
