WAIMATE HOSPITAL.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. Tho Waimate Hospital Committee of Management met on Wednesday night, presont being the chairman (Mr W. Geddes), Messrs H. J. Dash, R. Sinclair, A. Grant, and J. T. Hay. In his statement the chairman reported that receipts during August amounted to £233 4s, and accounts presented for payment totalled £638 4s Bd. The return of patients disclosed that during August a total of 57 males and 54 females had been treated. At the beginning of the month there had been 28 males and 29 females in the institution, while during the month 29 males and 25 females bad been admitted, and 28 males and 32 females discharged, leaving 29 males and 22 females still in the institution. The collective daya' stay was 1753 days, making tho aver' age number of occupied beds per day 56.5. For the five months elided August 31st the colledtive days' stay was 7947 days, making the average number of occupied beds por day during the period 51.9. The superintendent (Dr. Wylie) reported that the hospital had been vary busy during tho month, but everything had been coped with satisfactorily. Nurse Finn, had completed two years' training and was recommended for promotion to third year; while Nurse Tonkin, who had completed her first year, was recommended for promotion to second year. Nurses Black and Bremner had left for three months' experience in Timaru, and two relieving nurses from Timaru had been sent to Waimate. Nurse Oollis had been off duty for a we6k. Nurse Wylie, Timaru, who had been relieving, would probably be returning soon. Staff-Nurse Meyer was on annual leave. Arrangements had been made for lessons in cooking for four nurses. In answer to Mr Grant, Dr. Wylie sftid he could not explain why the hospital had become so unusually busy. The medical staff realised the necessity for reducing the number if possible and was not keeping any patients in the institution any longer than necessary. The health of tho nurses was generally very good. The superintendent's report was adopted. The financial statement showed that for the five months to the end of August maintenance had cost £2873 Is 2d (estimate £2918), as compared with £335(5 for the corresponding period of last year. Receipts for the five months totalled £666 10s 4d (estimate £791), as against receipts of £866 for the same petiod of 1930. Accounts amounting to £538 4s 8d were passed for payment.
