It was expected that soino good racing would take place during the coming season, which would commence in about a month's time. The committee extended its thanks to those who had given trophies and to those who had assisted tlio club during tho past season. KAIKOURA. The Rev. F. A. Crawsliaw, Dominion secretary for the Mission to Lepers, gave an interesting and instructive address on tho work of the mission, at St. Paul's Schoolroom, on Wednesday. There vyaa only a fair attendance, the Rev. F. Robertson presiding. Tlio Rev. W. W. Bedwell also welcomed the speaker. There was a good attendance at the weekly session of the W.E.A., held on Wednesday evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs James Murray. Tho subject chosen was Wagner's opera "The Valkyries," and tho speaker was Mr Murray. There was a large assemblage of friends of Miss Currie at the Masonic Hall on Tuesday night, when a kitchen evening was given in her honour. Mr H. Prince, on behalf of Miss Currie, thanked her friends for tlie many gifts and such an enjoyable evening. Tho Kaikoura Hockey Club held a successful dance in the Oddfellows' Hall on Wednesday niglit. Music for the dancing was supplied by Misses E., M., and J. Wareham, A. E. Flower, and Mrs R. Clark. Mr N ! . Cfichton was M.C. DOMETT. At a well-attended meeting of women held in the Domett Hall on Wednesday, a Women's Institute was formed, undor the organisation of Miss Stops. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs Cliilds; vice-president, Mrs Paton; secretary, Miss M. Ilyde; treasurer, Miss M. Cltilds: committee: Mesdamcs Cooper, Martin, and Wilkinson. Besides giving a most interesting and helpful address, Miss Stops exhibited a fine collection of hand-made articles. WAIAU. The following ladies' hockey team has been selected to play against tho llanmer team, at Hanmer, to-mor-row:— N. White, M. Cassefly, B. White, N. Casserly, B. Forbes, JSunckell, A. Duncan, M. A social gathering held to commemorate the fourth anniversary of tho opening of tho Presbyterian Church at Prebbleton was held recently in tho parish hall, and was attended by a large number of church members and their friends. Competitions, games, and musical and elocutionary items contributed to the enjoyment of those present, those assisting being Mrs MeNicholl, Mrs Clarke, and Sir Norris (vocal items), Mrs Taylor, Mrs MeNieholl, aiid Jovee McNicholl (recitations), and instrumental numbers by Miss May Bighnm and Mr Norrisi Several interesting competitions were held, the winner-) being Mrs Riches, Mrs Mcßae, Mrs C. Hands, Miss M. Kerr, and the I'ev. Mr Meßae. A quartet was also sung by Hestor Port, Myrtle and Nellio Pi let, and May Cain. Mis Meßae then cut the birthday cake, which had been beautifully decorated by Miss Ethel Port, and distributed it amongst those present. Votes of thailks were passed to those who had assisted in the evening's entertainment. Tlio work being carried out in tho Anglican Cemetery with the assistance of tho Unemployment Board is making good progress, and an improvement in tho appearance of the grounds is apparent. Paths have been cleared and trees lopped and thinned out, whilo unsightly undergrowth amongst the shrubs has been removed. Tickets are selling well for the School concert, which is to be held at the end. of the term. Workmen are at present engaged in painting the sc.'Md buildings.
