ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (FREBS &SBOCUTIOX TEIjECJBASI.) WELLINGTON, April 17. The New Zealand National Council of Women concluded its conference to-dav. The most important subject dealt with., was unemployment among women, A deputation of the whole Council waited on the Minister for Labour and presented a series of resolutions upon the question. The speakers were Mrs Fraer) Miss Basten, and Miss B. E. Carnachan. Another deputation, consisting of Mrs Fraer and Miss Carnachan, waited on the Prime Minister. The resolutions adopted suggested that the National Council of Women be appointed ;to act as.v an Unemployment Board for women; 1 that a grant be made to the Council for investigating the problem of unemployed women, and establishing practical schemes, such «as home, industries; that,the Government be supported in any< practical scheme for putting unemployed men and women on the land; that the Government subsidise factories employing women in the manufacture of' necessities; that the women of New Zealand should not curtail expenditure in the employment of i domestic workers or otherwise until' absolutely necessary. > The Minister said the points raised would receive consideration.' The suggestion that the Unemployment Board should co-operate with the Council was worthy of consideration. The annual meeting followed. Officers were elected as, under:—-Dominion president, Miss B. E. Carnachan (Auckland); Dominion secretary, Miss C. J, Piatt (Auckland); (Dominion treasurer, Miss E. Jackson (Auckland); honorary auditor, Miss Basten (Auckland); honorary solicitor, , Miss E. Melville (Auckland; Parliamentary Miss Epgland, Mrs A. Stone', Mrs Perryman, Mrs M. Forde, and Miss Kirk'; international secretary,' Miss' C. Flatt.
