PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO THE PBBSS.) GEEYMOUTH, April 17. Mr and Mrs Eldon Coates, jun., who have been visiting Greymouth, left yesterday for Christchurch. Mr N. Dew, railway stationmaster at Hokitika, is on annual leave. Bishop West-Watson (Christchurch) will visit the district of Westland next week, arriving in Holcitika on Saturday. He intends visiting as far south as Bruce Bay and will return to Christchurch on May 4th. Mrs C. V. Curtis, who has been spending a holiday with her parents in Eunanga, returned yesterday to Auckland.

Mr and Mrs O. Bruhn, who have been visiting friends in Eutherglen, returned yesterday to Wellington. Misses K. and S. Wood and J. Roche, who have been visiting the Franz Josef Glacier, and also friends in Greymouth, left yesterday on return to Wanganui. Mah'on Gibson, of the Reefton Hospital, has been called to Denniston consequent on the illness of her father. Mr George Pettigrew, well known in mining circles on the West Coast, who is now in Otago, has been visiting Eeefton.

Mr W. Earp, Chief Apiary Inspector to the Agricultural Department, is visiting the West Coast. Mrs T. Brebner, who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch, has returned to Greymouth. Mrs J. W. Hannan and Miss Mona Hannan, who have been visiting Dunedin, returned to Greymouth on Thursday. Wedding. The wedding took place at the Church of the Eesurrection, Cobden, on Wednesday ovening, Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn officiating, of Iris, second daughter of Mr and Mrs L. Linbom, and 'Mr Braithwaite Marley, formerly of Northumberland, England. Miss T. Kennedy was bridesmaid and Mr George Allen best man. Mr and Mrs Marley left- yesterday for . the East Coast on their honeymoon. Accidents. While working in the State mine - a man named George Graham suffered a broken leg. He was removed to the Grey Hospital. Mr "Albert Topp, of" Hinau, received a severe shaking on Sunday. While he was cycling home on his motor-cycle his machine apparently skidded at Boatman's creek bridge. He was later found lying underneath the cycle, and was removed to his home in Eeefton for medical treatment. Price of Bread. The price of bread has been reduced in Eeefton by one penny per two-pound loaf. The price of bread in Kumara is lid per two-pound loaf delivered. Racehorse Injured. Whilst contesting the Irving Memorial at Eeefton Mr T. E. Coatos's bay mare, Baby Bun, broke a tendon in her off foreleg and returned lame to the saddling paddock after pulling up. She will be an absentee at Nelson, but may race later in the season. New Collier. It is reported that the Westport Coal Company contemplates the pu'rchaso of a new collier to be fitted with furnaces for burning pulverised coal in order to give a practical demonstration of the value of this fuel. • Building. Activity. '' During the year ended March r 3lst a total of £44,641 in building permits were issued by the Greymouth Borough Engineer,'against a total of £61,775 for the previous year. Westland Racing Olub. Preparations for the substitute race meeting proposed at Riccarton by the Westland Racing Club are advancing; Both the Minister for Internal Affairs and tne Racing Conference are sympathetic with the club, and will meet requirements consistent with the appro: val of the Christchurch racing authorities. The latter ore now considering the request, the main decision resting with the trustees of the Riccarton/ racecourse. land Board. Opportunity was taken at the meeting of the Westland Land Board at Hokitika yesterday to niake a presentation of a wallet"o£ iiotes to Mr W. L, Fleming, Senior Fields Inspector, who is retiring on superannuation. Mr T. Cagncy, Commissioner of Crown Lands, made the presentation. ' . Hokitika Mayoralty. Mr G. A. Perry, the present Mayor of Hokitika, t to-day was nominated for :a further term. ' Plight from Christchurch. Squadron-Leader McGregor arrived at Ikamatua at 4.30 after a good flight from Christchurch, occupying 100 minutes.
