NO TRAMWAY RATE.
STATEMENT BY MANAGER. "Every effort is.being xYiado to avoid striking a rate, and I am very hopeful of those efforts being successful," stated Mr F. Thompson, general manager. of the Christchurch Tramways, when commenting yesterday on the suggestion made at a meeting of the United Burgesses Association that it would be necessary to strike a ra *- e to meet the losses now being made by the system. . "As a matter of fact," continued Mr Thompson, "I anticipate that *he financial year ending on March 31st next may show a small surplus, whicn I am hopeful will meet the deficiency on the buses. This deficiency, however will be less than it was twelve months ago." •
