ANNUAL CONFERENCE. U'.HBSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, November 18. " Tho annual meeting of the Plunket Society was opened to-day. The ivork of the Society was praised by the Minister for Health (tho Hon. A. J. Stallworthy), who said he approved of the further extension of tho Society's activities. Appreciative references were made by several speakers to the work of Sir Truby King. , Sir Truby King, in reply, emphasis/d tho importance of ante-natal care. He stressed the value of sex and motherhood instruction to young women, and said that those who had had Karitane experience were best qualified to give such teaching, He urged that young women, on becoming engaged, should remember the duty they owed to the State, of keeping in good health.'

The use of the name "Plunket" in commercial advertising was denounced by the conference, which will continue during the week. One hundred and fifty delegates .are present. The following remit from tho Central Council was adopted: "That branches be asked to dci everything in their power to maintain the broad policy of the Society by endeavouring to prevent the use of its name, directly or indirectly, for commercial purposes, or as an advertising medium." The, question arose because some difference resulted when one branch received an offer from a firm to give a percentage of a week's takings to the Society in return for leave to uso tho Society's name in an advertisement. Sir Truby King spoke strongly against such a practice. After discussion, it was decided to set up a sub-committee to draft guiding lines on tho matter. Sir Truby King, Mr J. A. Young, M.P., Mrs Parkes (Auckland), and Mrs Gilmour (Lyttelton) were appointed the subcommittee.
