The West Indies cricket team was welcomed on its arrival on the Ulimaroa by officials of the Cricket Association. Mr Mallett, manager of tho team, described the voyage as an exceedingly rough one. 4" were glad to be ashore. He added that this tour would go a

long way towards the development of the game in the West Indies. LARGER STUMPS POSSIBLE. MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A suggestion that larger stumps, as introduced in England, be used in the senior grade cricket matches in Christchurch was made at last evening's meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association. Mr 11. C. Burns said that the St. Albans and Old Bovs' teams both wanted to play their match nest Saturday with the larger stumps. It was agreed that they bo allowed to use them. Mr Burns suggested that as soon as sufficient of the larger stumps were available all senior matches should be played with them. It would be a good idea for players to get accustomed to them as they would be used in the Plunket Shield matches. It was agreed to keep the suggestion in mind so that a decision could be made when sufficient stumps were available. Mr W r insor pointed out that only four sets would be required. Mr C. S. Thompson said that it might be easier for a side to got a three point win when the larger stumps were issued. It was necessary for that point to ho considered so that all teams would be treated fairly. Mr Winsor said the meeting might have been hasty in deciding to let St. Albans and Old Boys use the larger stumps on Saturday, but the decision could be revoked only with the consent of all present. No' amendment was proposed, so the resolution was allowed to stand. A letter was received from the secretary of the Sports Club at Kurow. The letter asked for assistance'in procuring a second-hand cricket set. A sports club ha<3 recently been formed at the Public Works camp there and some of the members were keen cricketers. The letter was referred to the clubs. Tt was decided that the Town v. Country match be played at Hagley Park on December 3rd.
