ANNUAL EXAMINATIONS.

Th« annual examinations of the Education Department, conducted through the Canterbury Education Board, began yesterday when 54 candidates in the Training College entrance examination sat for their first papers at the Caledonian Hall. This examination will continue daily until Thursday, November 20th. It is usually undertaken by probationary teachers, who have haa one year of service and wish to qualify for tho Training College; but this year a number of would-be probationers are sitting a year ahead of their time. Mr W. Brock and Miss A. Handley. are the supervisors. , There are 408 candidates (296 boys and 112 girls) for the Public Service Entrance, Senior National Scholarship, and intermediate examinations, which will be held from November 19th until November 26th. The boys will be examined at the Caledonian Hal' (supervisor, Mr Brock), and the girls at the Canterbury College Hall (super visor. Miss A. Ritchie). The Junior National Scholarship examination, for which there are , candidates, will be held at the Caledonian Hall on November 27th and 28th. Mr Brock and Miss Ritchie will share the work of supervision.
