PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON. (PEOII OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT./ LONDON, October 9. New Zealand friends of Mr E. T. Taylor (Wellington) will be interested to know that lie is now a Liveryman of one of the ancient City Guilds. He has been admitted a Member of the Worshipful Company of Distillers. The ceremony of admission to the company took piano at a special meeting, which was held on October 7th, at the Hall of the Worshipful Company of Cutlers, in Warwick lane, and the subsequent banquet was in every detail in accordance with the custom of the City Livery Companies. .Mr . Taylor was proposed by Mr H. "J. Newman (Master of the Distillers' Company,), and was seconded by Mr A. C. Cardin (a Past Master). His election was received with great cordiality. During the speeches of welcome it was mentioned that Mr Taylor was the only member of the Distillers' Company resident outside of England. As Liveryman, he will be a Freeman of London, and so be entitled to vote at elections in Common Hall. Naturally, he is much pleased with the distinction, that has been conferred upon him. This week Mr and Mrs Taylor, with their arm and daughter, leave for Scotland and Ireland, and on their return a few weeks hence certain formalities in connexion with the Freedom of London will be completed. A large number of passengers have booked through to New Zealand by the Orama, leaving Tilbury on Octobei llth. These include the Lord Archbishop of New Zealand, Mrs, and Miss Averill, Mr and Mrs C. Yatman,;anJ Sir Gilbert Purcell. Mr A. W. Oxley (Dunedin), after an extended tour round the northern capitals of Europe, ha^ 1 returned to London. He will leave next week by the Duchess of Bedford for Canada, where he intends to stay for some weeks before continuing his journejk to New Zealand. Miss M. J. Demiiston (Opawa, Christchurch) left Auckland for Vancouver at the beginning of May, and stayed there for a tim© before going to TJegina to visit her cousins, Dr. Grace ' and Miss Norah Armstrong (formerly of Dunedin). Finally, Miss Denniston left Eegina at the beginning of Septemher and arrived by the Duchess of Athol. She has not made any definite Alans at present but will most likely He for some time in the Mother Country with London as her headquarters. Mr and Mrs David McLaren (Wellington) spent September visiting the English Lakes and Scotland. They returned south via Durham, York, and Cambridge, and altogether had a very pleasant and interesting tour. On October 14th they will leave for Australia, 'via Suez. , Mr Edward T. Bowling (Christchurc.h) jhas returned from a three weeks' motor 'tour, "visiting many towns of architectural 'interest in England, including cathedral centres sueh ; as Winchester, Gloucester, Wells, - Bath, Worcester, Lincoln, and Peterborough. He also went north- to Scotland spending some little time in the loclis and Highlands centres. He returned to London by the East Coast through Melrose, Dryburgh, and Jedburgh Abbeys, and now he is .about to start work at the Architectural Association, Bedford square, with the view of taking the Digloma course of three years' duration. Mr Sydney Bathbone (Wapganui) was a passenger by the Bangitata in July, and he has been visiting relatives in Surrey and" the North of England. He intends leaving on his return- to the. Dominion, in January, either via Panama or Vancouver. Wills proved recently included that of Mr Henry L. Biseley, tecil road, Clifton, and Corn street, Bristol, a well-known insurance broker, the gross value of whose . estate is. given as £36,058 (net personalty £.32,807). The late Mr Biseley had a number of friends in New Zealand. Mrs J. D. MacQuarrie (Wellington) and her daughter have been on an extended motor tour which included the principal.beauty spots in Scotland. They are at present staying m Edinburgh, Which will be their headquarters tor the next three months. While there Miss MacQuarrie may attend the Edinburgh Art College for special classes. Mrs MacQuarrie expects to be back in London at the beginning of the year, hoping to see a number o± friends,before going on to the Continent. The Rev. George W. Blair (Waipu) gave a lecture on "New Zealand last week at the Allen Memorial flail, Cregagh, Ulster. The lecture was illustrated by ninety lantern slides lent by the High Commissioner b Department. Mr George B. Bolt (Wellington) is hoping that the Windhover flymg-bqat for New Zealand will be out for trial very shortly now. In the meantime Mr Bolt has beeri on the Continent having some trips by all \ to and Belgium, including the handling of the bie Fokker aeroplanes, which has been verv good experience for him.
