PRIVATE DANCE.

At the Winter Garden last night Mrs William Helmore was hostess at an enjoyable dance given in honour of her daughter, Miss Elena Helmore, who, with her mother, returned recently frqni England, where she had the honour of being presented at Court. The ball-room was festively decorated with lupin and rhododendrons, and at one end were arranged comfortable chairs and settees where many non-danc-ers watched the animated scene with much pleasure,- while others . played bridge in the lounge. The small tables in the supper-room were decorated with bowls of mixed flowers. Music was supplied by the Bailey- ! Marston Orchestra. Mrs Helmore wore a gown ot black satin beaute with shoulder straps of diamente and deep cape collar falling below the waist at the back. Miss Helmore wore a white chiffon frock with fitting bodice and very long lull slurt and a spray of red roses on the shoulder. She carried a white ostrich feather other debutantes were amongst the guests. Miss Catherine Johnstone, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs H. B. Johnstone, of Otaio, who was also recently presented at Court, wore a lovely frock with bodice of alternate bands of white satin and white georgette and skirt of plisse pleated georgette. She wore a bandeau of tiny pearls and carried a white feather fan. „ Miss Elizabeth Elworthy wore a graceful draped frock of white satin plainly- cu; and lightly tucked at the waist, and a shoulder-posy of lily of the valley and maidenhair fern. . Miss Patricia Ronalds wore a charming frock of white satin with plain bodice, relieved with a white flower studded with brilliants on the shoulder, and flared skirt trimmed, with quaint little tabs of the material. She carried a posy of lily of the valley and white hot-house flowers. Mrs Guy Ronalds wore a frock with bodice of violet velvet and two-tiered skirt of violet georgette. Mrs H. B, Johnstone wore a frock of ivory crepe de chine with knife-pleat-ed skirt. Miss Edith JPlatt, whose marriage to Mr E. Drapper takes place shortly, was entertained at a "pantry afternoon party." given by Miss" Alice Unwin at _ her parents' residence. A happy time was spent in games and competitions, the winners of the competitions being Misses Gwen and Amy Sutherland and Dulcie Timms. The drawing room was decorated with pink and green streamers and the teatable with white lilac and pink blosEoms.
