MALVERN. Ac the last meeting of the Malvern County Council those present were—Crs. Wright (chairman), Gillanders, Jas. Deans, Chamberlain, Adams, Cullen, and Morrison. The Health Department forwarded a recommendation in respect of a dwelling vrhieh required putting in order. The engineer presented plan and specifiea. tions for the trimming and metalling of the proposed extension of the Bush Gully road, for wtiicli a £ for & grant has been placed on the Estimates. It was resolved to forward the plan to tho Public Works Depart* ment. The Selwyn County Council asked for an opinion on the suggested reduction of 10 per cent, in wages. This was deferred until the estimates are gone into. Residents in the Waireka area complained about an increase of 5s per 100 acres for water. It was explained that as the account was in debit owing to the water-race crossings in that area being piped, the increase was warranted. It w;as not to be supposed, however, that the increase Wis permanent. The Commissioner of Transport forwarded a copy of the draft motor-drivers' regulations for the Council's information, asking for comments and suggestions. The- Council considered that the regulations were too drastic, and It was decided to reply that the-present system was approved: with the exception of the lack of signalling, and to recommend that a system of hand signalling be strictly enforced* Complaints were received about stray stock in the Courtenay district, and tho pol* of water-races by duckß. The ranger was instructed to make an endeavour to suppress both offences. The dog-ranger handed in a list of 1 owners of unregistered dogs, and as these people had been both called on and written to, it was decided to take legal action. The engineer reported that the work of repairing the Bealey road from Hoskyne road to the county boundary is being continued. The metalling of the Selwyn Valley road was complete with the exception of some patching near Messrs Broughton Bros. 1 estate, and patching had been carried out on the West Coast, Dalethorpe, and Telegraph roads. All the main highways had been graded during the month, and also Hartley, Belwyn Valley, and Homebnsh and Kowai roads. The water supply was being well maintained, and all headworks were in good order.
