THEATRE ROYAL.
"THIS MAD WORLD." An engrossing story of the age-old conflict between love and patriotism is told in "This Mad World," the main picture at the Theatre Koysl this wonk. It ia an English adaptation of a French war play. The action takes place during the German occupation of Alsace Lorraine in tho Great War. Wh'lo Victoria, the wife of a German general, Is staying at the home of a loyal Fronch woman, the latter's son, an espionage agent in the French Army, arrives. Victoria learns the son's true character, and attempts to inform tho German garrison stationed in the neighbourhood. Paul, the spy, thwarts her plans, and of military necessity is expected to take the lady's life. He forgets duty in admiration of her courage and grants her a respite. Both oventually forget their love of country and surrender to • mutual lova, but a stronge coincidence recalls Victoria, and the shot which warns the Germans and betrays Paul comes from tho revolver with which she commits suicide. This fateful climax closes one of the most powerful stories yet filmed.
