CITY BURGLARIES.
-—♦ TWO SHOPS ENTERED. Thieves entered two shops in ih" City on Friday night, taking money in each case. By using a pioco of paper over which treaclo had been smeared, they were able to break a wiudow quietly and tlvu3 gain entrance into a bilbardiooin at the back of the tobacconist shop of, Mr A. H. Sorimahaw, in Gloucester street. A door behind the counter was then forced, and several drawers ransacked. Money only was taken, the cigarettes and tobacco being untouched. The ■ thieves apparently escaped by the front door wnich, was later found, open. Entrance to the premises occupied by Mr A. Caulfield, as a grocery shop at the corner of Madras street and Coventry street, was also effected through a window at the back of the buildi-ftg. Two locked doors had to be forced bafore the intruders got into the shop itself, but nothing except a small sum of money was taken.
