TIMARU. PERSONAL. Mr EL H. Eraser will return from Wellington on Monday. Mr H. Kennedy will return from Wei lington to morrow. Messrs P. S. Shrimpton, J. M. Jenkins, A. L. Gee, and G. A. Bridges will represent the South Canterbury Auto mobile Association at the annual con ference of the South Island Motor Union, which will be held in Christchurch next week. Oddfellowshlp. P.G.M. Bro. W. Dempsey presided over a large attendance at the halfyearly meeting of the South Canterbury District, 1.0.0. F., M.U., in the Timaru Lodge-room. In his opening address the Grand Master detailed the progress of the district and the Order numerically and financially. Praise was accorded the Lodges for improved condit.ons, especially in attendance and ritual work. An increase in Lodge visits was commended and sound business methods of finance stressed. Attention was drawn to the close of the quinquennial period now at hand and the need that Lodges should have everything up to date so that the district valuation may be made by the Friendly Society Department without undue delay. The balance-sheet and auditors' report, presented by P.P.G.M. Bro. H. EL. Brown* showed that the total value of the district was £6789 6s Bd. Five funeral allowances amounting to £l3O were paid during the period, £194 5s 7d was collected in funeral levies, and £159 17s 9d received in interest, leaving a balance of £4983 15b 4d in the funeral fund, an increase of £224 15s 2d for the half-year. The management fond received £3l 0s 3d in Lodge levies. The balance had fallen to £l3 7s 9d, a decrease of £39 8s 9d, for j which heavy non-recurring expenditure is responsible. Twenty-two maternity allowances, amounting to £132, were I paid. The district investments fund, which is made up of small amounts from the several Lodges, stands at £I6OO and is returning the lenders over 6 per cent. The district members' fund was drawn on for the first time since its inception. Eight pounds were paid out, leaving a balance o £194 3s 7d. The financial position was considered satisfactory, and, upon condition that certain routine matters were attended to, the balance-sheet and auditors' report were adopted. For the position of P.G.M. during next term Dep. Prov. G.M. Bro. Francis •I. Bailey, of Loyal Morven Lodge, was lominated, and P.G. Bro. John Biach, if Loyal Heart of Friendship, for that of D.P.G.M. The management levy was fixed at ninepence and Geraldine as the place of next meeting, provided arrangements can be made. ~ A remit was adopted that the premiums of all insurance policies held by the district over their investment securities be adjusted as opportunity offers, so that they fall due on August Ist. It was also resolved that all remits from Lodges must be in the hands of the C.S. six weeks before a district meeting, and that the agenda paper must be sent out not less than five weeks before the said meeting. P.P.G.M. Bro. D. Petrie, C.S., who has fulfilled the necessary requirements, was, on behalf of" the district, presented with his jewel by P.P.G.M. Bro. R. Earl with a wish that he might be long spared to wear it. Bro. Petrie suitably replied. A letter was received from an onfinancial member who, in accordance with the law, had been turned out of a Lodge meeting for non-payment of contributions. The writer for a district ruling. It was agreed that the Lodge ruling was correct, and that the applicant be advised that the matter was one of Lodge business. Automobile Association. At the monthly meeting of the Counjil of the South Canterbury Automo- j bile Association the Otago, North Otago, and Waimate Automobile Associations wrote congratulating the Association on the appointment of a road patrol in the South Canterbury area. The Waimate Association suggested that it might contribute towards the patrol service on a mileage basis, and enquired under what conditions it would be entitled to participate in the scheme. The secretary (Mr E. A. Scott) said he had informed the Waimate Association that its contribution would be £IOO per annum. Mr Scott also reported that North Otago was inangu rating a patrol service. It was decided to congratulate North Otago on its progressive move. Forty-four new members were elected. South School Jubilee. In connexion with the forthcoming Jubilee of the Timaru Main School, the following programme has been arranged: — Saturday, February 7th—Assemble at 1.30 at Alexandra square; 2 p.m., march to school; welcome speeches; roll call; photos; 8 p.in., reunion at Drill Shed. Snnday, February 8th —2 p.m., assemble at school; place wreath on memorial; march to park for church service; about 3.15 p.m. visitors to be taken, for motor drive. Monday, February 9th—School holiday; .gala day and sports gathering; start at 10 a.m.; 8 p.m., ball at Scottish HalL , Tuesday, February 10th —School in session, open for inspection; afternoon tea for visitors. Morris, and Messrs Burinester and Giles tied for the men's prize. In the play-off Mr Giles won. The ladies' consolation prize was won by Miss J. Rule, and the men's consolation by Mr W. South after playing off with Messrs Slattery and Ivey. Music was supplied by Mrs Whiting. Mr W Ford was M.C. The library opened in the Orari Bridge Hlall on Wednesday evening, when a good number- of subscribers werd enrolled. Several donations of books have been received.
