MID-CANTERBURY

ASHBURTON. TECHNICAL SCHOOL BOARD. At the monthly meeting of the Technical School Board of Managers yesterday there were present Messi., R. Galbraith (chairman), J. Watson, W.'-T. Lill,' E. Houston, T. Hayes, G. W. Andrews, W. Bramley, E. J. E. Smallbone, and W. G. Hillier. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £77l'4s od. Annual grants of £5 from the Ashburton Borough Council and £ls from the Ashburton County Council were received. The Canterbury Education Board advised that Mr E. Galbraith had been reappointed its representative on the Technical School Board. Members expressed general satisfaction with the excellent nature of the inspector's report, and.it was decided to compliment the Principal upon the report. The Principal reported that Miss Aiken had again taken up her duties. Miss Neville and Miss Watt left at the end of the term. Miss I. Belcher was relieving in place of Miss Neville until the arrival of Miss T. Chamberlain. During the month return interschool visits had been made with Timaiu Technical School. The Christchurch Technical College had also sent down several teams, while most of their students had attended the Christchurch Winter Show. In games, the School teams had done very well this year. the boys' A team being the winners of the fourth-grado Rugby competition, while both teams left in the' lina! of the seven-a-side of the same grade belonged to the Technical School. Their teams won both the senior and junior knock-out basketball competitions. A team of folk dancers from the school was successful in getting into the honours list at the competitions. The following were elected for t.h« ensuing year: —Chairman, Mr 11. Galbraith; deputy-chairman, Mr T. Hayes; treasurer, Mr J. Watson; grounds committee, Messrs G. W. Andrews, K. Houston, W. Bramley, and W. T. Lill; executive, Messrs R. Galbraith, T. Hayes, W. G. Hillier, V. J. E. Smallbone, and J. Watson.

Trout Fry Liberated. The last 30,000 of an order of IUU.OOO brown trout fry from the Temului hatcheries ' havo been liberated, i'.i streams in the upper reaches of the Ash burton river by-'members of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society. Thirty thousand rainbow trout fry will be liberated next month in the lakes. Personal. .Nurse I'. K. Wilson, of Seuvicw, Ashburton, who recently passed the State luatornity examination, has been appointed staff nurse at Paeroa Maternity- Hospital, Auckland.
