SUCCESSFUL WELLINGTON SCHOLAR. WELLINGTON, August 8. Leaving Wellington on Friday next by the Maunganui is Mr A. C. Keys, M.A., of Victoria College, en route to France. Mr Keys is among the most successful students of languages who hare passed through Victoria University College, and is the holder ot the University Senate's Travelling Scholarship in French. He vras educated at Wellington College and at the end of his course there he gained a University Entrance Scholarship. At Victoria College he studied Latin, Greek, and French with great success In 1927 he was classed as "worthy by the English examiners for senior scholarships in all three subjects and by the University Senate was assigned a senior scholarship in Greek. m 1928 he gained first-class honours in Latin and French, and in 1929 firstclass honours in French as a single subject. As a result of his work in 1928 he was awarded the Sir Robert Stout Scholarship for the best student of the year, and in 1929 he was awarded the Jacob Joseph Scholarship in connexion with which he has just completed a thesis on the "Simile Element in Silver Age Latin Epic Poetry." In 1928 he acted as additional assistant to.the Professor of Classics and in the present year had his so©. Sesses crowned by winn ngthe coveted iravelling scholarship .in French.
