OBITUARY.
MB W. MACKINDER, M.P. (TOITKD PRESS ASSOCUTIOK-BT BMOTEIC TEMOBAPH—COPWUOHT./ (Received September Bth, 7 p.m.) LONDON, September 8. The death has occurred of Mr W. Mackinder, M.P. for Shipley, and a member of the Labour Party. [William Mackinder, who was born at Hull in 1880, had represented the Bhipley division of the West Riding since 1923. He was a member of the Wool Control Committee during the war, also a member of the Central Profiteering Committee. He had been a member of the Departmental Committee on Anthrax since 1914. In 1927 he published a novel entitled "Bone Street."] MR W. ROSS. (PRBBB ASSOCIATION TK.HOBAK.) WELLINGTON, September 8. t The death has occurred of Mr William Ross, sub-inspector for the Bank of Australasia, aged 44. He was in the bank's service for 2o years, and served in the Great War. MR WILLIAM PIPER. An old resident of Wellington, Mr William Piper, died at his residence, Austin street, recently. Mr Piper arrived in New Zealand 50 years ago, in the sailing ship Crusader, under engagement to the firm of Messrs B. Petersen and Co. (later Kohn Bros.), manufacturing jewellers and watch-mak-ers, of Christchurch. He and his brother, the late Mr John Edward Piper, of Launceston, Tasmania, were responsible for the making of the first electric clock in New Zealand. Mr Piper was in business In Willis street, Wellington, for many years, as watchmaker and jeweller.
