. The second meeting of the Little River branch of the Women's Institute was held in the Little River Library on Friday afternoon, when eleven members were present. Mrs S. C. Trail presided. Three new members Were welcomed after ordinary business. A lesson on smockine was given by Mrs Trail. Afternoon tea brought to a close a very pleasant gathering. The final of the championship of the Christchurch Ladies' Golf Club, which was to have been played to-day at Shirley links between Miss D. Chrystall and Miss B. Butherford, has been postponed until Friday, September 19th. The match will be played over 36 holes. A grand cabaret dance, under Jewish auspices, will be held to-night in the Winter Garden. The Bailey-Marston orchestra will supply the music, and the proceeds will be devoted to deserving charities in the City. At the meeting of the Home Economics Association to bo held on Thursday evening at 7.30, in the Y.M.C.A. lecture room, Miss Gee will give a short lecturette on "The Spring Hat" and a practical demonstration of modern millinery methods. This demonstration, which is arousing an unusual amount of interest, is to be held one day later than the scheduled date, on September 11th, not September 10th.
