TRENTHAM NOTES.

[TUB PRESS Special Serrlce.] i WELLINGTON, Septomber 4. Threatening weather eventually turn* ing to rain were the conditions for training work at Trenthatn this morning, but moßt of the galloping was over before the rain set in properly. The trial grass and tho tan tracks wero both open. The going on the grass was soft. Lineage ran six furlongs in 1.23, tho last half in 53. He hit out and pulled up well, but was carrying only a lightweight. Dainty Ways ran four furlongs in 55 2-5. Historic ran six furlongs, picked up by Crash at the half. Ho did 1.20 1-5, the last half taking 52 1-5. Historic is well nnd should not be long in showing a return to form. He iinißhed in front of Crash, but tho latter shapod particularly well, and could have done bettor. He seems to have come on a lot since tho winter, whon ho secured his firat win in maidon company at Otaki. White Doe and Salt Pot ran half a mile in 51. Salt Pot lifts grown and filled out nicely, and gives promise of coming right. He doos not like tho soft going too well. Intruder did a good working gallop over six furlongs, coming home over the last half in SSsec. Kasouli and Rational 11., who leavo for Melbourne on Saturday morning, sprinted four furlongs in 62. Tourist had it well on Black Mint at tho end of seven furlongs in 1.33. He was also carrying more weight, and it was a pleasing gallop. Staghuntor, on the tan, ran away from Duellona at the end of six furlongs in 1.21. Money Mint, with a welter-weight Up, ran half a mile in 56. An unnamed brother to Lord Thomond finished better than Araemo over three furlongs in 395. Panorama (A. Jenkins) jumped tho schooling hurdles in fine style. Type and Salt Spring sprinted down the two-year-old straight. The latter, by Saltash-Aries, will not be raced until later in the season. T J Daly's team went up to Wanganui to-day, and the rest of tho Trentham contingent for Marton leave to-morrow morning. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. SPRING HANDICAPS DISCUSSED. In the Dundas Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday, August 23rd, Loquacious Finished with a very determined run from a long way back, and her display was obviously pleasing to her party Later she was the only horse for which there was a decided move in tho A.J.C. spring market (says tho "Sydney Morning Herald"). Twelve months ago Loquacious won the Metropolitan, and she also won over a mile and a quarter at Randwick last June. These victories would probably influence racegoers in their opinion that Loquacious would again be better suited by a mile and five furlongs raco, but when it is recalled that the sister of Windbag finished third in the Doncaster Handioap as a three-year-old, and last year after being second last into tho straight sho was sixth past tho post in Nightmarch's Epsom Handicap, tho demand for her for the mile raco this year is not surprising. If she fails on the first day of the Meeting she may then make amends on tho second day; Loquacious was backed straight out to win a largo amount, and was coupled in doubles with Gay Crest, Paquito, Waterlino, and Concentrate. Word was received at tho week-end that Waterlino is a sure visitor for tho A. J S3. Meeting. Pentheus's win on Saturday was tho mneral topic, and the Rossendale horse Is, at the 'worst, equal favourite with High Disdain, one or two ore-post operators having the Dundas Handicap winner absolute favourite. A well-known sportsman was so impressed with tho Rosehill double winners—Penthous and tn the Shade—that he backed them to win him £6OOO at Randwick.

Gay Ballerina, whose principal mission in the spring is the Epsom Handicap, continues to sain favour, and she was again joined with Paquito, Waterline, and Gay Crest. The Gay Ballerina and Gay Crest and Toper and Gay Crest doubles are popular with stnayy hackers. Gay Ballerina overreabhed herself on the track, but did not suffer any ill-effects. The latest order for each race is: *

Epsom Handicap

High Disdain, Penthous. Mollison, Tom Pinch. Holdfast.

Eaglet, Gay Ballerina. Amounis, First Sight, Gesture, First Arrow, Killarney, Loquacious, Ruffler, Tbper, Waugoola. Th* Metropolitan.
