N.Z. STAFF CORPS.
♦ —: APPOINTMENTS OFFERED TO OFFICERS. Following on the suspension pf compulsory military training in New Zealand, officers of tho Permanent Staff Corps have received offers from the Defence authorities in England to take up service with the Imperial units in the East and in India. The opportunity to apply for overseas service is available to all officers of the rank of Major and under, and every member of the Christchurch stafi, with one exception, who came within this categorv, has decided to volunteer. Positions will be offered probably in British Army units in the Sudan, Iraq, China, Traus-Jordania, Malacca, HongKong, and India, and pay for the appointments is reported to range from £6OO to £IOOO a year. It is expected that lull particulars of the offer will arrive from London in about a month's time. If any of the officers who apply for the overseas appointments are successful they will be seconded from _the New Zealand service to tho Imperial units. This will allow the men to continue participation in the New Zealand superannuation scheme. The seconued officei'3 will also have the right after tW years of applying'for an extension of their service abroad. Staff corps officers, in conversation yesterday with a representative of The Press, stated that they were naturally very keen to avail of ' the offer, the preliminary advice of which had"been cabled from London, and.thus to secure appointment where their services would be appreciated and where the positions would be secure. The majority of them were only hoping that, the vacancies available would be enough to absorb them
