WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT.; . YESTERDAY'S RESULTS. * (P3ESS ASSOCIATION XXUSOBAW.) INVEKOABCULL, September 9. The women's hockey championship games were played this morning to enable the visitors to attend the Banforly. Shield match. BeSllltS!— 1 . section a. Southland B 2 drew with. Botorua 2. Eastern Southland A 9 beat South Canterbury 0. . ' ; Wellington 5 beat West Coast X.' SECTION B. Southland A 2 drew with Wairarapa S. ' Otago ,5 beat Manawatu 1. . North Otago 2 drew with Eastern B 2. ; A Drawn Game. Southland A were only able to effect'a draw in their game with.Wairarapa, and now definitely lose the K Cup. It must be admitted that the Marooh forwards played, a ragged game, especially in the first spell, and had "energy neither to finish off 'their movements nor to tackle, their opponents. . The Eick of the quintet was Elsie Woodhead, who attled hard, but M. Belsham was disappointing on the right wing after some of her previous displays. I M. Mclntyre, from whom much was expected, was also -lifeless, while M. White' and M. Clark have both given much more inspiring displays. K. Laidlaw, in the halfback. line, proved herself a tower of strength to the Maroons' van, whom she fed generously; and her defence, was sound. ' Wairarapa deserved.' their draw, "for their rear division stood up well to. the Maroons' onslaughts which they frequently stemmed, h. Booth was a tower of strength as left full-back. T. Johnson, in the half-line, gave a sterling display, and again and again sent her van away, while B. Brown put in some dashing work on the left wing, where she successfully held M. Belsham. Both fore and aft Wairarapa were right on their game, - and - although in the second spell .they, did not have the territorial advantage,-, credit must be' given to them for the stout defence, which absolutely held the Maroons' van at bay.

Coast Improves. A rearranged Wellington forward line took a long time to settle down against West Coast, who gave their best display to date. /At the interval Wellington - had a lead of only 1-0.. Coast had'more than held their own territorially:. In the second spell the Wellington forwards went better, and four goals were registered. The West Coast forwards -made frequent excursions into Wellington territory, but only once managed to net. Hiss O. Stapleton, who played a fine game throughout, was the scorer. For Wellington, Misses Maull (2), Harper (2). and Foreman goaled. ' Another Draw. After having easily the better of the first spell, and looking the winners, North Otago had to be content with a draw agatnst Eastern B, who rallied after the interval. North.Otago seem to have a habit of fading away in the second spell, otherwise they would occupy a higher place in their section. For Eastern B Miss M. White secured both goals, while for North Otago Misses A. Willis and Cormack scored. : An Uninspiring Display. The match between Eastern Southland. A and South Canterbury did not provide a very inspiring display, as South Canterbury were outclassed in all departments. Though Eastern A won by 9 goals to 0, their forward* aa an attacking unit were not so impressiro as in previous games, and opportunities were thrown away. ■ , Otago beat Manawatu. By their defeat'of Manawatu, Otago further strengthened their chances of winning., the K Cup. The Dark Blues again displayed good combination and looked winners from the first whistle. Manawatu defended solidly, hut they coiild not keep the versatile Otago fcfrward line out all the time. Miss Hawae put in some great work in defence for Mana w a tn, ana but for her splendid tackling: and hitting,. Otago must have doubled ttelr.tMrfc [ Misses Hunt and Gosney, Otaep a wisjgl.
