NORTH CANTERBURY.

RANGIORA. Arrangements are being made by the North Canterbury Football Club for a visit by the Temuka fourth grade team on Saturday, September 13th. The visitors will arrive at Rangiora on the Friday even.ng and will be the guests of the local club over the week-end. The whole of the Rangiora borough sewerage system is now practically completed. KAIKOURA. There, was an exceptionally good attendance at the Orchestral .Society's concert on Tuesday night, and every item was thoroughly appreciated, encores being demanded tor each item Mr W. C Hughes, "My Old Shako" and "Dawn", Mrs A B Clark, "Sing Joyous Bird" and "Heart ot G> Id" ; Mis S Will anison, L-T C.L.. "Che Faro" and "The Banks of Allan Water", Mrs N. B. Harris, "Tht Willow" and 'ln the Garden": Mr S. J. Mogridge. violin solo, "Saltarelle, and an encore, Mr E. .N. Harris, cor net solo, "The Kosary," which ha<J to be repeated. Days without sunshine, 7 (6). Frosts on 21 nights (2D. - CUST. A very pleasant afternoon was spent in the Presbyterian Sunday School, under tht> auspices of the Ladies' Guild. Mra 0; Mcintosh (West Eyreton) gave a very interesting address on her recent trip to Australia with the New Zealand farmers' party. The Rev. A. Simmons, on behalf of those present, thanked Mrs Mcintosh for the very interesting description she had given of her tour. Mrs C. Briggs and Mrs Wayland also thanked the speaker. BELFAST. A pleasant evening was spent in StDavid's Sunday School, when the parishioners met to welcome home Mr and Mrs H. R Harris The vicar. Rev. H 0. Hanhy, on behalf of the congregation, welcomed Mrs Harris as a member, and SDoke of the work ot Mr Harris on behalf of the Church and the connexion of the Harris family with Church work Messrs W. G Brown and A. Johnson, church war dens, spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Hiarris and wished Mr and Mrs Harris every success in the future Mr Han by then presented Mr and Mrs Harris with an oak dinner waggon as a small token of esteem on behalf of the parishioners. The programme consisted of various games. Music for the dances was supplit . by Mesdames W P. Anderson and P Thomas and Mr P. Miller Supper was provided by the ladies HALSWELL. A "coin" afternoon was held in the Halswell Hall. It was organised by Mrs Talbot and her committee, in aid of the Halswell Convent building fund. About one hundred people responded to the invitations, and a pleasant time was Bpent with musical items and bal let dancing. Miss M. Hay ward was the pianist. The cake, made and given by a lady, for a guessing competition, was won by Colleen Withers, who has been ehosen for the Blue and Gold Queen, in connexion with the forthcoming garden party. The Saturday night card parties con tinue to be very popular, the tables being well filled with players. The highest scores by ladies were made by Mrs Wilhelm 1, Mrs Leisley 2. The best scores by men were made by Mr Wilhelm 1, Mr H. Hayes 2. After supper the room was cleared, and a dance followed. Mr W. Boselor supplied the music. TAI TAPU. There was a good attendance at the weekly social in the Tai Tapu Hall The prizes for the competitions were won by Miss Jones and Mr R. Taylor A basketball match was , played at Rhodes Park, between teams from Tai Tapu Old Girls and Broadfiela The former won by six to one. Mrs A Lowden has returned from a visit to. Dunedin. Mrs O Stanbury and family. Little River, are visiting relatives in Timaru "*r and Mrs S Harris, who have resided in Little River for the past five years, left on Tuesday for their new home in Takamatua. Miss Betto Barclay, Little River, has returned from a holiday spent at Sumner.
