The Southland team to meet Wellington in the Ranfurly Shield game on Wednesday is as follows: — Baeks —Norris, Webb, Porter, Gcddes, Diack, Sharpe, Holden. Forwards— George (2), Purdue, McKenzie, Hazlett, Gait, Metcalfe, and Poll. The team is the same as that which defeated Hawke's Bay with the exception that Webb replaces Niven. Laßt night at the meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Referees' Association, Mr W. G. Garrard osked why the referee of the Christchurch v. High School Old Boys match last Saturday had ordered a player oft the field and had later allowod him to come on again. This was a very serious matter, as it struck at tho fundamentals of the game. The -rule specifically stated that once a player had been ordered off he must not be allowed to return to the field. Ho (Mr Garrard) was not interested in the rights or wrongs of the matter, but with the referee's action in allowing the player to como back again. TOURNAMENT. Boys' Rugby and Association football tournaments were held yesterday under the auspices of the Y.M.C.A., the former being seven-a-side and the latter five-a-sido.
