NORTH CANTERBURY.

RANGIORA. Members of the Bible classes connected with the Rangiora Presbyterian Church, to the number of about 40, were entertained at the Manse by the Rev. and Mrs W. R. Hutchinson. Advantage was taken of the gathering by the Young Men's class to, present an autographed Bible to their leader (Mr A. J. Ferguson), who will leave next month to take up his residence in the vicinity of Christchurch. KAIKOURA. The euchre evening conducted by the Kaikoura Band Committee was well attended. Mrs H. .T. Wilkinson won the ladies' prize, and Mr H. Stone the men's prize. Mr A. G. Elliott, of the Fields Division, Department of Agriculture, spent last week at Kaikoura, in connexion with the experimental plots placed at the disposal of the Department by Messrs J. Langon (Ludstone), F. Monk, T. Stack, E. Burrows, and Hailes Bros. The A. and P. Association were responsible for the arrangements. The annual meeting of the A. and P. Association has been postponed from July 26th, on account of the Rugby Test match, many of the members desiring to listen-in. SPRINGFIELD. Mr and Mrs Curry, who have been transferred to Greymouth, were the recipients of a gift and were entertained at a farewell party given by friends and fellow-workers at Springfield. Mr Curry, who has been star tioned at Springfield for nearly five years, was very popular, and Mr Cameron, in making the presentation of a rug to him, expressed regret at his departure. ' Mrs Curry was also the subject of a presentation, and a farewell was tendered to her at the residence of Mrs R. Innes. Mr and Mrs A. Taylor, who have been staying with Mr and Mrs Innes, motored through to spend the weekend at the Glacier Hotel, Bealey. LINCOLN. A meeting of St. Stephen's Church Committee was held at the Vicarage, Lincoln. The treasurer reported that the envelope scheme had been successfully launched. Already 30 parishioners had joined ; t and others had promised to do so. It was anticipated that increased revenue would be forthcoming under the scheme. The weekly social in aid of the school funds was held, when there was a good attendance. The winners of the competition were Mrs R. Hamilton and Mr Moody.

The Lincoln School boys travelled to Springston to play the Springston boys at football. After a good game the Lincoln boys suffered defeat by 14 points to 11.

LITTLE RIVER. A very pleasant evening was spent at Little River by the members of the Masonic Lodge and their wives, at the residence of Air and Mrs Dudley Richards, the occasion being a presentation to Mr and Mrs Richards, who were married recently. The evening was spent in bridge and eu»;hre playing. Mr C. Dutton, on behalf • of' the Lodge, presented Mr and Mrs ' D. 1 Richards with two crystal decanters, and wished them every happiness and many years of health. Mr Richards suitably replied. Those present were Mr and Mrs C. Dutton, Mr and Mrs E. Ussher, Mr and Mrs H. French, Mr and Mrs A. Thompson, Mr arid Mrs Tait, Dr. and Mrs Trail, Mr and Mrs Vanstone, Mr and Mrs J. Humphries. Mr and Mrs Lowden, and Mr and Mrs Aitken. Mr and Mrs L. Lohdrigan left last week for Taumarunui, where they intend to live. Mr Shirley, of Edendale, has been appointed manager of the Wairewa Dairy Factory, Little River. Mr Baas, who has been. headmaster 'of the Pnaha School for the past two years, left Little River on Saturday to take up duty on the Fendalton School staff. Prior to his departure, he was tendered a farewell social by residents of the district. Mrs A. Lowden, Little River, is spending a few days in Christchurch.
