CYCLING.
CANTERBURY CENTRE. The ilrst meeting of the newly-appointed Cycling Committee of tho Canterbury Ccntro, N.Z.A.A.A., was held at tho offico of Messrs C. S. McOully and Co., Tuam street. Present: Messrs R. Beatty (Ohairman), A. E. Purse, T. A. Gtosc, R. Hill, G. Giles, L. Hill, O. Hill, F. E. Pearl, and H. D. London. Mr Pearl ,wos elected secretary. The reinstatement of J. Calder, ■ Halkett, was recommended, subject to the approval of the professional body. Consideration was given to the constitution of the cycling conference, which it is proposed to hold at the same time as the New Zealand championships each year. In connexion with forthcoming road races, the following dates were recommended to the Canterbury Centre: —September 13th, 80 miles Canterbury Championship: September 20th, proposed 50 miles race conducted by Prebbleton Sports Club; September 27tli, ro.und-the-gorges road race. In view of the alteration in the distance of the New Zealand championship road race, it was decided to recommend the Canterbury Centre to make the latter race the Canterbury 100 miles championship. It was reported that some members of the professional ranks had been aiding certain riders in the Papanul Club's road race last' Saturday by supplying lap times, and it was decided to ask the professional body to give Instructions to its members that this practice be stopped.
