PERSONAL. (SPXCIAI* TO THE FBSSS.) GREYMOUTH, July 4. Mr R, Jtew, of the Government Health Department, accompanied by Mrs Hew, arrived from Westport last evening on a visit to Greymouth. Mr S. C. Haughie, of tbe Public Works Department, accompanied by Mrs Haughie, arrived from Dunedin last evening. Mrs J. P. Riordan, who has been visiting Dunedin and Wellington, has returned to Greymouth. Mr L. MacGlashan left to-day for Christchurch. Mr R. T, Hayles, of Eiverton, has been appointed ritationtaaster at Beefton and wfll arrive shortly. Obituary. The death took place to*day at Greymouth of Mra Caroline Roberts, widow of Benjamin Roberts, of Greymouth. Mra Roberts was 82 yeafs of age, and a nativo of Australia. Bho came to the West Coast many yoars ago, residing at Reefton for 85 years, ana coming to Greymouth 27 years ago. She leaves a family of two daughters and four sons, Mesdamea W. Chapman (Reefton) and G. Absolom (Greymouth), and Messrs Benjamin Roberts (Wellington), and John, Thomas, and Henry (Grey* mouth). The death occurred yesterday of Mrs E. Kittelty, at Auckland. Mrs Kittelty, -who was 78 yoars of age, was a native of Belfast, Ireland, and arrived in New Zealand, with her parents, Mr and Mrs Montery, when 16 years of age. With her hußband, who predeceased her several years ago, and family, aha resided at Greymouth for about 60 years - prior to taking up residence at Auckland. A family of five survive their mother, of whom are Mrs North (Whangaroa), Mrs Larsen (Waipiro Bay), Mrs McKechnie, and Miss Daisy Kittelty (Mt. Eden), and Mr Norman Kittelty (Cobden). The death occurred at Westport last evening of Mrs Harris, widow of the Mr W. 8. Harris. She was a nativo of Belfast, and 90 years of age. Mrs Harris arrived in Otago in 1863, and two years later was married at Queenstown. With her husband she came to the West Coast in 1871, taking up residence at Charleston, and later moving* to Addison's, where she resided for 40 years. Subsequently she moved to Westport, living there until her death. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs C. Friend (Westport), Mrs W. Flavell (wife of the general manager of the Westport Coal Company, Dunedin), and Mrs W. Hillyer (Sydney). Newß was received to-day of the death at Hikurangi of Mr Joseph Stenhouse, a former old West Coast and Blackball resident. He was 69 years of ag%. and had resided 63 years on tho Wt*t Coaat, coming here with his parents from Victoria. He was a wellknown athlete in his young days.

School Dental Clinic. Tlie Minister for Education, writing with reference to ft dental clinic at Blackball, representations regarding which were made during hit recent visit to the West Coast, advises that the Director, Division of Dental Hygiene, states that at present there is no dental nurse available, but the application of the Blackball School Committee has been noted, and will come up for consideration when further dental nurses are available. Electricity at Kaoleri. Jl quantity of machinery ha* arrived; W Hokltika to be forwarded to Lake Kanierl for use by the contractors in connexion with the new works at Lake Kanieri for the Electric Power Company. Competitions Society. Messrs Oh&s. Begg and Co., Ltd., Ghristchurch, have given a gold medal for the most promising vocalist at the West Coast competitions festival, while the Bristol Piano Co., Christchurch, haa presented a gold medal for the most promising pianist at the .festival. A cup haa also been given for the champion, vocalist. Magistrate's court. Charles Robert Kerr, of middle age, appeared at the Greymauth Magistrate'* Court to-day charged with failing to comply with an order of the Court made at Dunedln on February 22nd, 1926, providing for the mainteni anee of his wife, Maria Kerr. Arrears to November 18th, 1929, amounted to I £230. A further charge of failure to provide lor the maintenance of his daughter, Thelma May Kerr, an inmato of an institution under the Child Welfare Act, 1025, who is not of sufficient ability to contribute towards her own support, was also preferred. On the fi-st charge Kerr was remanded to appear at Dunedin on July 9th. The | second charge was adjourned until tomorrow.

Charles tyfcCartney, 53, was charged mrith being an idle and disorderly person, having insufficient means of support. He was convietpd and ordered to come np for sentence if called' upon within three months. Pensions Board. As there" is not a great deal of business on the West Coast for the War Pensions Board, the forthcoming sitting will be held in Groyxnouth only on July Slst, and eases from Hokitika and Westport will be heard there. One day is expected to suffice for the sitting. Dr. Carberry will be with the Board and will visit Hokitika on June 19th. Mr T. S3. Y. Seddon will accompany the Board in his capacity of chairman. A Huge Skate. When engaged yesterday on the bar at Westport, the Eileen Ward dredge brought up through the suction pipe a large skate which was landed in the hopper wtih scarcely 3 mark showing on it. The skate i/aasured Stt 6in by 3ft, and weighed Ijcwt. It is believed that this is the biggest skate ever landed in these parts. South Westlaqd Roads. At the request of the Westland County Council, Mr J, O'Brien, M.P., took up with the Minister for Public Works this week) matters affecting grants for the district, and also in regard to continuing the* maintenance of the far south road. The latter work has hitherto been provided for from the Consolidated Fund, and the grant is now depleted. Mr O'Brien has urged that additional assistance be provided from other -funds to ensure maintenance work being carried on. Wedding. The wedding was celebrated at St. John's Presbyterian Church this evening, the Rev. J. W. Hayward, of Hokitika, officiating, of Anne, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. of Wallsend, formerly of Glasgow, to Mr James F. Coutts, of Kelty, Fifieshire, Scotland. Miss Pearl Symons attended the bride as bridesmaid, and Mr Alexander Coutts was best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at Wallsend, where a large number of guests wero entertained by the bride's parents. Mr and Mrs Coutts leave to-morrow for Chrlstchurch on their honeymoon.

Bhnnter Injured. A chunter named Curtis Olapp, while engaged in shunting operations on the Greymouth wharf this afternoon, was 'struck by the engine, and received injuries to a leg, He was removed to the Grey Hospital for treatment.
