NOXIOUS WEEDS.
QUESTION OF CONTROL. [THE PBBBS Special Ssrrico.] , WELLINGTON, July 4. Remits forwarded to the conference of the Counties' Association in connexion with the control of noxious weeds were referred to a committee which has presented its report. The committee stated that in \aew of the recent successful work of the Department of Agriculture in the development of spraying methods for weed control, a different aspect had been placed on the noxious weeds problem. It was considered that the Noxious Weeds Act Bhould not be interfered with. The committee felt very strongly, however, that every facility should be given to the Department to give effect to the recently discovered methods of weed control. For that purpose the Government should be impressed with the necessity for adequately increasing the grant to the Department to enable further investigations in methods of weed control to be carried oat, and also for demonstrations throughout New Zealand of methods recommended. In the committee's opinion control and the methods of combating noxious weeds should be left in the hands of the Department of Agriculture and its officers, and any other powers in existence. It was urged that weeds on Crown lands should be subject to the same attention as other lands where that was economically possible., The report Was adopted without amendment.
