AMONGST THE HORSES.

VISITING FOOTBALLERS ENTERTAINED.

Trottiirg is little known in the British Isles, but to give the visiting footballers an idea of the sport, and the conditions under which it ia conducted in New Zealand, a party of trotting enthusiasts took most of the Test match players to Addington yesterday morning. Local trainers, including BVeo Holmes, B. W. Franks, and A. Co* had arranged to give the visitors an exhibition el pjwing that was thoroughly enjoyed. After a vigit to the scraping sheds and * chat with the trainers the footballers adjourned to the track, where tbey were treated to several smart brushes by well-known pacer»» which included Logan Chief, Omaha, Travia Axworthy, Bonny Logan, Brent* light, Mac de Oro, and Bomerby, the last-named irf saddle. 'After a couple of rounds of warming-up work the horses came down the straight at a smart clip, all finishing well together, with Travia Axworthy showing a daßb that pleased the visitors. This was repeated several times and then a lot of interest was manifested when J. L. Farrell, the big Irish forward, took a seat behind Bonny Logan, and Free Holmes drovo Logan Chief. Tho horses were jogged for half a mile, and came down the straight several tinrtis at a good pace. Bonny Logan being a half length to the good on each ocoasion. Although Logan Chief was pulling a fair weight, he had a big advantage in the matter of avoir* dupois over.Bonny Logan, for Farrell is a rourteen'Stoner, It was p'aln that the visitor was not having bis first drive and bo and Bonny Logan got on quite well together in the sharp sprints. After being' shown over the buildings at Addington by Mr J. Higbstead, the party proceeded to F. P. Jones's stables at Blccarton, and after morning tea tho horses were inspected. Most of the British team are interested In horso flesh, nnd Farrell and F, D. Prentice especially found mueh to admire in the champion Limerick, ajid First Sight. Farrell has an, eye for a 'chaser, and he thought that First Sight would provide the ideal mount. With Jones he discussed all aspects of the racing game, and he will go home well fortified with many details concerning racing conditions in New Zealand. A visit to the Biccarton racecourse was next made and the visitors were thoroughly interested in the excellent appointments of a New Zealand racecourse, and were more than delighted when shown over the totallsator house by Mr P. D. McNab. An inspection of photographs in the room wad enjoyed by all, and altogether the visitors came away with R ve, y impression of New Zealand racecourses. A thoroughly good morning's entertainment it was voted, and for one of the".members of the team to drive a hoppled pacer with a record of 8.8 3-5, was something at least unusual. Mr F, D, Prentice, _ the captain of the team, expressed his keen appreciation of the entertainment provided, and tendered his thanks to owners, trainers, and caretakers for their thonghtfulness in providing such good sport.
