"A BILL OF DIVORCEMENT."

SATURDAY NIGHT'S ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE. The Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society, in response to many requests, has arranged to give an additional and' final performance of Clernence Dane's "A Bill of Divorcement," ou Saturday night. The season of four nights, which closed early this week, arousdd increasing interest as it progressed, and an extra performance was asked for by many who wished to sec the play again and many who regretted missing what has been everywhere praised as a first-class production and the Society's finest up till now. A. deeply impressive play, it present* a problem essentially modern, in which a wife divorced from her husband because he is believed permanently insane is faced with his sadden return when she is within « week of marrying again. The complications are in her own character, which is Bwcet, helpless, and Victorian; ,in the struggle between love for her lover and pity for her husband; and in the governing, pacrificing spirit of her daughter. As the second act follows the first the suspense of the play becomes almost agonising. The' husband' pleads for his v/ifeV love. and storms and weeps; she, bound by a Victorian conscience of what'-is right and what is wrong, finds pity conquering her Jovo and determines to resist happiness for duty. As she makes her last farewell, the daughter, overwrought in tho knowledge that tho insanity of her father may recnr in ' her children, thrusts ■ aside the man to whom Bhe is engaged and points the way out for all. The play is produced for the Society by Miss Kiore King, and the production as a whole and the individual performances of the cast have been • unstintedly praised ou all sides. The play will be presented in tho Radiant Hall. Flans are at The Bristol.
