PRACTICAL VALUE QUESTIONED.
<' The committee felt that no good ■ purpose conld be served by attempting such an analysis," said Mr W. H. Nicholson, in presenting to the Council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last evening the report of the Economics Committee on farm wages. The report stated:—The committee has given consideration to a request from the Associated Chambers of Commerce that a report be made on the comparative remuneration of farm workers and city employees, but the committee is of opinion that a reply should be sent to the Associated Cham berg pointing out the immensity of the work involved in thoroughly examining the position; the question as to the practical value of the results obtainable from statistics, owing to the difficulty of settling a comparable basis to allow for the diverse conditions of employment both between town and country and between various classes of employment in both town and country; also that the matter has already been investigated by farmers' organisations; and expressing. the committee's regret that, in view of tho foregoing considerations, it is the opinion of the committee tliat it is not at the present time advisable to submit a report in connexion with this matter. The report was adopted without discussion.
