NAVY LEAGUE.
CANTERBURY BRANCH. A meeting of the General Committee of the Navy League, Canterbury branch, was held last evening, when Mr J. J. Dougall presided. Also present were: Mrs H. Wyatt, Misses L, B. Sanders and L. Creswell, and Messrs T. H. Foster, D. Manson, J. C. Graham, W. J. Le Cren, A. MacGillivray, and A. K. Anderson. The financial statement, which was adopted, showed that the League had a credit balance on the current account at the bank of £34 Is lid, and a deposit of £ 237 3s 3d. The sea training fund had a credit of £221. lis 2d.' The sub-committee set up to investigate the desirability of allowing the Sea-Cadet - Corps controlled by Colonel G. J. Smith to adopt the- nam© of "Navy League Sea reported favourably. It was decided that Colonel Smith be advised to that effect, and f that it be intimated to. him that although the League gave the Corps \ta patronage and reserved- the right to appoint the officers, it-did. not undertake any financial responsibility. ; discussing the remits to the conference, it was resolved to write to the various shipping companies in New Zealand asking them to notify the conference secretary when ' boys, were required to fill positions in merchant vessels. The following committees were elected: —Essays Committees Mrs H.'.T. J. Thaclcer, and Messrs J. J. Dougall, A. K. Anderson, H. L. Bowker, T. M. Charters, W. J. Le Cren, and the Rev. A. H. Norris. Finance Committee: Messrs J. J. Dougall, T. H. Foster, H. L. Bowker, P. B. Hume, and W. J. Le Cren. It was decided to ask for permission from the Christchurch City. Council to hold a street collection on Friday, November 7th. The secretary reported that the organisation of the junior section of the League was making rapid progress and the membership was increasing.
