CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

RIOT AT BULL FIGHT.

LEAGUE MEMBERS RAID ARENA.

Tho "Daily Mail's" Paris correspondent says tho 10,000 spectators at a bull fight arranged at Melun, Trance, in aid of scholastic charities, got far more excitement than they anticipated, when 500 men, women, and girl members o£ the Provention of Cruelty to Animals League tried to stop the spectacle. Despite the announcement that tho bulls would not bo killed, tho protestors rushed to tho front rows, armed with police whistles, and when the picadros appeared, mounted on horses whoso flanks were bleeding from spurß, members of the League, led by a pretty girl, scrambled into the bull-ring, and linked hands, cutting off the picadors from tho bull's enclosure. Pandemonium broke out, and the spectators rose to their feet howling, and there were free-fights in the ring arena.

The gates were then opened, and a squadron of mounted gendarmes charged the protesters, while foot police pulled them out of tho arena amid the crowd's cheers. Members of the League threw smoke bombs into tho arena, and fresh fighting began. Meantime an aeroplane which the League had chartered, hovered overhead. Picadors and matadors rushed to shelter, but a bull seized the opportunity to charge a matador, whom members of the League thrust back into the arena, while he was climbing the fence, to which he hung on desperately. Gendarmes won the battle after many broken heads, and tho bull fight concluded. . It is expected that the affair will raise tho question of the legality of bull fights in France.
