At the monthly meeting o£ the Waimats County Councils there ■ were present: Tho chairman (Mr J. Bitcheucr, M.P.)» Crs.A. S. Elworthy, H. Max Whatman, It. Sinclair, P. B. Woodhouse, J. W. Chamberlain, W. Lindsay, N. A. Kattray, and A. N. Hayes. yho District .Engineer, of thoPublicWorks Department wrote stating thataconßiderable number of railway crossing, signs were not. being maintained,, some being broken, and practipally all . required 1 painting. In view of the frequency of mishaps at railway crossings, it waß'desirable that the signs should bo efficiently maintained. MOUNT HERBERT. The annual "meeting of ' the Mt.< Herbert County Council was held on Wednesday. Present: Messrs E. W. Gray (chairman), A. K. Gardiner, E. W. Coop, R. A. Anderson, Chas. Pope. Reg Gebbw, and I. W. Guy. ■Or. Coop, reported-that satisfactory progress had been made in regard to the proposed new road from Oharteris Bay to Purau. . Harold Gardiner has given the land for the road to pass through his, property, and Mr Oliver Hunter had acted in a similar way. Jtr F. B. H.
