OBITUARY.

. MR ROBERT JOHNSON. Mr Robert Johnson, who died at his residence, Harakeke street. Riccarton, on May 20th, after a long illness, was born at Mumby, Lincolnshire, England, in 1852. He worked on his father's farm till he was 19 years of age) when he sailed in the Charlotte Gladstone, for New Zealand. On landing at Lyttelton he made his way to Greendale, where he was employed by Mr James Gough, for about sixteen months. Early in 1872, he took up his first farm at Aylesbury, and after some years of success, purchased adjoining land, which became known as Lake Farm. In 1878 he was married to Miss Elisa Croskell, of Anderby, Lincolnshire, England. During his years of farming, he took an active part in the different associations for the advancement of the district. He was ehairman of- the Aylesbury school committee for ten years, a member of the Courtenay Road Board, the Kirwee branch of the Farmers' Union, and a director of the Kirwee Saleyards Company. He was also a past president of the Courtenay Agricultural and Pastoral Association, of which he was made a life member. About sixteen years ago, Mr Johnson gave up I active life and retired to live at Ric* | carton. He leaves a widow, six daughters, and three sons.
