FRIDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) BBEACH OF ORDER. 'For non-compliance with the terms of his prohibition ordet liobert Russell was fined 20s and costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. BY-LAW OASES. For cycling on the footpath the following were fined:—John McDonald Boaker 5s and costs, William George Downie 10s and costs, Honora O'Donnell 10s and costs, and John Telford 10s and costs. Victor George Beck was fined 20s and costs for failing to give information to the police, and on a charge of not having the assigned number-plates .on his motor-cycle, was convicted and discharged. Wilfred George Thomas Lawrence was fined 10b and costs for riding a motor-cycle without a head-light, convicted and discharged for, riding without a tail-light, and ordered to pay costs for not having the assigned number-plates on his motor-cycle. Frederick Evans Parsonß was fined Ss and costs for driving a motor-car without a taillight. For a similar offence in respect of a motor-cycle John Mackendcr Dobson was fined Ss without costs. James Moore was fined 10s and costs for cycling without a light. For failing to keep to the left of the road James Hili was fined 10s and costs. Geoffrey Richard Page was fined 20s and costs for cutting a corner. For a similar offence Arthur Ralph Phillips was fined 20s and costs, and was convicted and discharged for driving without a license. Harry Williams was fined 20s and casts for failing to give a signal before turning. For failing to give way to traffic approaching from the right at an intersection Frank Rule was fined 20s and costs. A charge of dangerous driving- against Robert William Laybourn (Mr D. W. Russell) was dismissed. A charge of; negligent driving against Edward Paterson, for whom Mr W. F. Tracy appeared, was dismissed. Cecil Spencor Penlington (Mr W. J. Stacey) was fined 20s and costs for cutting a corner. A charge of obstructing the footpath against Arthur Francis Stacey (Mr W. J. Stacey) was dismissed. Israel Rhodes pleaded not. guilty to a charge of negligent driving. The case was dismissed. (Befoie Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) Thomas Sarchett (Mr F. W. Johnston) pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to give way to traffic approachnig from the right at an intersection. The case was dismissed. liICE-INFECTED SHEEP. For exposing lice-infected' sheep for sale the following were fined :■—Archibald Douglas 10s and costs, Francis Narbey 10s and costs, Phillip Arthur Westenra 20s and costs, William Caradoc Weir 10s and costs, and Frank Coop 10« and costs. CIVIL BUSINESS. A. E. Church, of Methven (Mr R. Twynehomj, claimed £IOO from J. J. Niven and Co., Ltd., engineers' (Mr W. J. Sim), being the value of goods left in defendant's, care and alleged to have been lost. Mr_ Twyneham said the plaintiff had a sawmill plant which was damaged by fire. A claim was made on an Insurance company, but Church agreed to take tfrer machinery that was only .partially destroyed the value of £ll2. It was arranged for the machiney to be sent to J. J. Niven and Co., Ltd., to be sold. Plaintiff gradually became aware that Niven's had lost most of the items, leaving a balance of £l2 worth. Counsel suggested that this was evidence of carelessness. ' ; Mr Sim said that the firm had stated that no responsibility would be taken for the machinery. It was deposited in the yard at the owner's risk. He asked that plaintiff be nonsuited. In non-suiting the plaintiff the Magistrate said there was no evidence of responßibilty on- the part of the company. Costs would be given for the defendant.
