SCOUT NOTES.

[Exclusive to Ths Pbess.]

[By Lonb Wolp.]

On Aiizac Day a very impressive ceremony in connexion with the Toe H movement took olace in the Cathedral. The Boy Scouts were especially requested by the Rev. Owen Williams to attend the service, and a number of Scouters did so, and also took part in the procession.

A letter has been received by the Metropolitan Commissioner, Mr W. H. Montgomery, from Mr Williams, expressing his appreciation of the presence of the Scouts. He says that their appearance was excellent, and thanks them for their characteristic helpfulness, and the material assistance which they gave.

On Monday evening a most enjoyable entertainment, organised by Miss iris Montgomery, was given at the Little River Town Hall for the joint benefit of the local Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, whose funds as a result will be augmented to the extent of £25. Miss Montgomery was assisted m her 1930 Revue by a number of well known Christchurch artists.

The Badge Examination Committee have held several meetings with a view to placing examinations ror I wages for first-class Scouts and proficiency badges on a sound footing. It is considered important that the standard of badges should be fully ™ al i n " tained, and that the status should be uniform. With this object the eoftimittee have made enquiries about the systems used in the other centres,_ and have now drawn 'ip a provisional scheme, whicli will shortly be embodied in a circular. It is intended 'that for first-class Scouts there shall be periodical examinations on definite dates. With regard to proficiency badges, one examiner only of undoubted qualifications will be appointed tor each subject. Proficiency Badge examinations shall not all be taken on one day, but the examiner in each subject will hold the test, when several candidates have applied. It is realised that the examination for first-class badges will occupy several days, as some of the subjects have to be taken in a hall, while there are others which require to be in the open air. and it is probable that arrangements will be made for the first-class examination to be passed in three successive afternoons.

* The Metropolitan District (Commissioner, Mr W. H. Montgomery, is preparing a circular on the subject of troop records. It has been found that in some troops records kept nave been very imperfect, and '.t is important that Group Committees and Scouttoasters should adopt a uniform feystem. Group Committees should Keep a minute book, and a cash book which can also be used as a ledger foi subsidiary accounts. Scoutmxaers should keep a troop register, and a log book, giving in detail the history of the troop, besides the records of the Court of Honour, and the small books kept by the patrol leaders. Unfortunately troop registers are not available in Christchurch at the present, but a supply will shortly be obtained.

Sea Scouts will be glad to know that Commander Hall, Dominion Chief Commissioner of Sea Scouts, who has been ill for some time, has now left hospital, and is fast regaining his usual health.

Mr W. B. Desmond. Wolf Cub Commissioner. who is visiting Mfctamata, will return to Christchurch next week.

GIRI GUIDES.

The Guiders* Nursing Division, under Miss Harper, Sister of St. John Ambulance, gavp a most excellent display of ambulance work, in which a number of Brownies were enlisted, as patients, at the Domain Fete on April 26th. During the afternoon a very interesting demonstration of signalling was also given.

On Monday evening the Lyttelton company was inspected by two Commissioners, Mrs- Irwin and Miss Cocks, who were both- extremely pleased with the progress made by these Guides.
