r The twenty-first annual meeting of the Timaru and St. Andrews Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held to-day, Mr P. B. Talbot presiding. The annual report stated that valu-able-work had been done in supplying farmers with poisoned grain to combat the'small birds' pest. A very strong .protest was made against the super-tax proposals, and resulted in a variation qf the d'emands. The sliding Bcale of duties was retained after very valuable evidence had been submitted by many representative farmers. The following officers were elected:— Timaru: President, Mr P. B. Talbot; vice-preßident, Mr W. J. Black: delegate to the" Provincial Executive, Mr P. R. Talbot; executive members, Messrs J. Green, B. McKenzie, G. £. Elliott, L. G. Smith, A. Frazer, R. B. Hart, P.
