TOTALISATOR TAX.
•" ♦ MR POLSON'S PROPOSAL. (PRESS ASSOCIATION. TXLSG&UC.) GORE, April 80. Mr W. J. Poison, M.P., president ot the New Zealand Farmers' Union, replied last evening to the Sports Protection League's criticism of his suggested totalisator tax increase. He said that the racing industry would not have to pay a penny more under his scheme. The increased rate would be passed on to the public. The rachig industry would collect its share as at present, and the public would pay its share. The man who could afford to gamblo could afford to pay the increase. He concluded that he favoured the use of the telegraph system for the making of totalisator investments in opposition to the bookmakers.
