For the fourth year in the women's team of the skostuer Life-Saving Club nor. tfcs Mmea Thacker Shield, carrying wiib it the ■women's still-water iife-oaviag chaffl*pionship of Canterbury. The cootoi was held at the Tepid Baths I—-i tugtix before a large attendance. Four teams competed for tlw sbwWtho competition being open to tcanr* from schools and Hubs. The t«M*» were Christchurch Giru" Hirh School. Aronside Girls' Hyli Scixiol. East Christchurch Amateur Sarinuuißg Club, and . Sumner Life-Saving Ctrt. Complete land drill exenrtses, foik>wed by water work as for the prolaciency certificate, were the wtiMK at the competition, and points «w awarded for each division. Tfc** judges were: Land drill, Messrs A. K. Blank :>nd I*. G. Bamforti. work. Miss 11. M. Cowley and Mr FL. Collins.
-At the conclusion of the tmws. Mr- Blank, announcing the result, congratulated the instructors on tinf work and the teams ou the high standard of their displays. The land work, he said, had been excellent, the tea* work of the Sumner ladies betas very 'fine.. He was pleased to notice tlie high points scored by the teams Ciom the Girls' High School, whose work had been very good. Mr.Collins also spoke, remarking on the general excellence of ail the «&- plays, and making particular reference to the Sumner team. There was room for improvement, he in diving from the surface for a saltmerged object. In an interval during, the evening girls from the High School gave exhibition of fancy swimming.
