ROADSIDE SLAUGHTER.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sir,—rl have just come upon a letter - in The Pbess of Tuesday, signed "Humanity," and' noting the killing of two sheep on the open road going to Ashley Gorge. Lovers of animals will thank him for writing on the matter. But were the tenderhearted passengers who had to see this horrid sight vegetarians? I hope so, for only professed vegetarians have the right to object to butchering on the roads they frequent. As long as they sit down to roast mutton at their journey's end they , have nq.right to

regard with abhorrence either th© : manner in. which their dinner is prepared or the man who does it.' llather should they' bo prepared to judge as to the- most "humane" -method of securing the staple of their food. We who have reverted :to • the Divine decree and the significant lesson of man's vegetarian physical structure, very strongly object to.kill—ing in our presence, whether, for- food or the killer's pleasure. On the other hand I think most of us would see. the logic of removing the abattoirs into public places, such .as the frequented roads, from' which we now see potatawjigging, harvesting; and fruitpicking going fonvai-d. ■" Refined meateaters would then have to face' the horrible circumstances created by their indulgence and either justify them or revert to the food natural to our physical structure and our spiritual heritage.—Yours, etc., ■ *.- ? • CONSISTENCY.
