AMERICAN LIQUOR LAWS.
TREATY NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA. SMUGGLING OVER THE BORDER. (TOTTED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BT ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPTBIOHT.) (Received March 26th, 7 p.m.) OTTAWA, March 25. Opposition to the Prime Minister's announced negotiations for a liquor smuggling treaty with the United States of America threatens a serious political dissension. Mr W. MacKenzie King says that it is better to co-operate with the American Government than to make mutters easy for the criminal element, while the Oppositionists declare that the United States threatens to line the border with ten thousand armed men unless she secures a troaty, which would be hypocritical, as rum-running would continue. CANADIAN CONTROL OF EXPORT. (Received March 26th, 7 p.m.) OTTAWA, March 25. The House of Commons, by 173 votes to 11, passed the Liquor Export Bill, granting the Government authority to refuse a clearance to shipments of liquor to the United States. The Bill now goes to the Senate.
