PERSONAL. ( IfJXCUh TO T®* ***"•) GBEYMOUTH, March 26. Mr and Mrs J. Ainsley, who have been visiting friends at Karoro, have returned to Timaru. Mrs J. P» Griffen and Miss H. Griffen, who have been spending a holiday at Eastbourne, Wellington, returned to Greymouth yesterday. T\lr <0 C Davis, chairman of directors of Grey Valley Collieries, Ltd., is on a visit to Dobson. Mr K J- Williams, of Greymouth, who is on a visit to Auckland, has had the misfortune to break an ankle, and will be laid up for a few weeks. The accident occurred as the result of slipping. Harbour Board. The Hokitika Harbour Board mot last evening, Mr M. H. Houston (chairman) presiding. A vote of sympathy was accorded Mrs H L Michel and her family. The chairman rfeerred to Mr Michel's long connexion with the Board, he having been chairman for some years. The Ikamatua Aero Club wrote asking the Board to appoint a delegate to attend a conference to be held in Greymouth—lt was resolved that Dr. Teiehelmann represent the Board at the conference. The Minister for Internal Affairs wrote asking the Board to attend a conference to be held in Greymouth on April 10th to determine the boundary of the town of Greymouth as a, commercial centre. Mr Heenan, on behalf of Gunncraon and Co., made application for leasing several sites on the waterfront. It was resolved that available sites be leased to the applicant. Mr Heenan enquired whether any reply had been received from the Marine Engineer regarding turning the river to deepen the berthage. It was reported that the engineer had not visited Hokitika. The harbourmaster reported a good channel lift to 14ft deep. Beefton Tire Brigade. At the annual meeting of the Beefton Fire Brigade, Captain Coxall presided. The election of officers resulted: Captain, C. Coxall; lieutenant, J. Eager; first foreman, A. E. Parkinson; second foreman, D. Twomey; ladder firemen, C. Curtis and S. Newcombe; secretary, A. E. Parkinson; treasurer, C. Coxall. Captain Coxall presented a Loewe pipe to Mr J. Coghlan for his assistance and interest in the- brigade. Acclimatisation Society. The Grey Acclimatisation Society met last evening, Mr P. Beck (president) presiding. It was reported that the Hatchery Committee at Hokitika was doubtful about securing rainbow trout ova. It was decided to enquire further, and if ova was not procurable to purchase rainbow fry. It was decided that the opossum season should extend over two the same as in Westland, the dates being from June Ist to July 31st. The secretary was instructed to write to the Grey Power Board enquiring if any arrangements had been made to put ia fish ladders at the dam at Kaimata on the Arnold river, so that fish would have access to the sea from Lake Brunner.

Mr E. Holmes was asked to report as to the amount 'of damage don# by deer in the Kopara district. It was decided to make a trip to the Orangipuku river in Mr Peat's new launch. Mr P. Beck was appointed a delegate from the Society to attend the Deer Conference to be held in Christchurch on May 7th. Mining Disaater Recalled. To-day is the anniversary of the Brunner Mine disaster, which occurred on March 26th, 1896, causing the loss of 67 lives. Stewart Apparatus. Following the decision, of the Greymouth Harbour Board last evening, to give the Stewart apparatus a trial, a start was made this morning to put the machinery back on to the tug Westland, and to reassemble the plant. Simu Football Club. The annual meeting of the Bimu Football Club was held last evening, Mr S. Ogilvie presiding. The following officers were elected:—Secretary, Mr K. Ogilvie; president, Mr D. syan; vice-presidents, Messrs M. Keenan, B. Wells, M. Schroder, E.' Howat, J. Mcintosh, W. Haddow, W. Boyd, J. Nancekeville, E. Wells, H. Screen; club captain, Mr E. Howat.

Rugby Union. A meeting of the West Coast Bugby Union was held this evening, Mr A. A. Adams, president, being in the chair. The Marlborough Union wrote regarding an interprovincial seven-a-side tournament. It was decided to get delegates to refer the matter to their respective clubs and report to the annual meeting. The Wallsend-Taylorville syndicate WTote offering a cup for senior competition. This was accepted with thanks. Dobson Mine. A meeting was held this afternoon between representatives of the Grey Valley collieries the Miners' Union regarding the mining deadlock. The conference was without result. All the miners under the West Coast Council will hold a stop-work meeting on Friday to decide on united action. Grey Fire Board. The quarterly meeting of the Grey Fire Board was. held this evening. Present: Messrs W. H. Parfitt (chairman), G. Perotti, C. L. Green, K. B. Bain, J. McGinley, and Superintendent P. Deere. • A motion of condolence was extended to ,Mrs H. L. Michel" and her family, by reason of the death of the Hon. H. L. Michel/ who had been a valuable and consistent supporter of the Fire Brigade service in New Zealand. The chairman reported that it was intended to apply for a further loaii for water Teticulation in the residential area in Marsden road and the contiguous locality. If carried this would give all the additional water service required.
