MEETING OF BOARD.

The Sprlngston South Domain Board met yesterday. Present: Messrs E. J. Harris (chairman), W, Stewart (Commissioner of Crown Lands), S. F. Harnett, F. J. da la Cour, F. W. Woodward, E. B. Rowel 1. C. Wolfe, and 0. N. 0. Powell.

The chairman said that arising from complaint* regarding obnoxious smell from the outfall-of the sewer, and on their engineer's adviee, it had been aeoided to extend the pipe at the outfall and bend It into tbo water. He and some members of the Grounds Committee had visited the outfali and found that the complaints were tuily justified. The cost of the work, £69 8* Bd, was more than anticipated, and was more than double the amount estimated. The Grounds Oommitteo had considered the matter to be urgent. Mr Barnett rtoved: "That the aoilon of the Grounds Committee be endorsed, and that the meeting express full confidence in' the committee's efforts to abate a nuisance."

Mr Wolfe seoonded. Mr Woodward, ehairman of the Fiunnce Committee, took strong exception to the matter having been considered as one of urgency, and said that the complaint seemed to him to point to something wrong with the septio tank. The chairman said that the engineer had told him that the mat bad hardly formed, and that this was due to the Intermittent use of the system. On Mr Stewart's suggestion the latter portion of the motion was deleted, and is its amended form it was agreed to, A special committee, consisting of the chairman and Messrs Woodward and Stewart, was set up to Investigate the plumbers' and the engineer's account, with power to act as regards payment. Rent of Huts. On the motion of Mr Barnett, seconded by Mr de la Cour, it was decided to refund to tho six hut-owners who had paid in advanoe the sum of 80s each. v , Mr Barnett moved: That the hut rents be 80s." Mr Woodward seconded. Mr Stewart said that those who used the domain as a Ashing reserve rfhould not be called upon to contribute towards conveniences for others. They had to consider the question of the appointment of a permanent caretaker. He thought that a part-timo caretaker should be appointed. The chairman said that the fee payable should bear reference to the services rendered. More expenditure was wanted on the tennis court, and a new tennis court was asked for.
