THE WILKINS EXPEDITION. RESULTS OF ITS WORK. (OHIIZD truss association-ht llectbic TWHSOBAPH— copyright.) (Received February 24th, 8 p.m.) MONTEVIDEO, Februavy 24. Maps showing three hundred miles of hitherto unknown coastline discovered by Sir Hubert Wilkins, and "movie" films of scenes in the Antarctic were landed here to-day from the Hendrick Ibsen. Sir Hubert Wilkins stated that the expedition had kept perfect health, but had suffered from seasickness only wfren making 6hort trips in small oraft. The weather had been worse than on the Inst trip, although there was less ice. The expedition had verified that Charcot Island was a peninsula, and not an island with a large continent to the southward. Sir Hubert, instead of finding land west of Charcot, had found only water. He hod been in no danger when cut off from wireless communication last month, but being surrounded by a mountain range nine thousand feet high, south of Peter the First Island, had made transmission and reception impossible. He had prepared plans for the establishment of permanent observation posts in tho Antarctic, but the installation depended on the financial co-oper-ation of the nations concerned. It was possible for men to live in these regions for long periods. He was leaving for New York within the week to prepare for his Arctic trip in a submarine, which he considers to be a logical complement to scientific work. ~ ~ The partv came direct from Deception Island without stopping nt tbe Falkland*, and had two days very stormy weather en route.
