The Cook County Council, Gisborne, bus agreed to contribute approximately TTuO per nnnuni towards the cost of providing aerodrome facilities.

All the Canterbury aeroplanes which made the trip to Blenheim to attend the air uageant on Saturday have now returned with the exception of Miss Arolm Clifford's Avian. Flight-Lieu-tenant Vail got, back on Sunday and the others returned yesterday, Miss Clifford, whose machine is not so powerful as the others, remaining behind in order to allow the nor'-wester to die down.

A railway mishap which is believed to be without parallel in New Zealand occurred yesterday morning near lvarangahako when Wirth's Circus was on its way by .special train from Tauranga. One very largo elephant had a van to himself. He started to get restive, rocked the van violently, anil soon it jumped the rails. The train was brought up with a sudden jolt, and there was a delay of four hours before the van was back on the line. —Pres* Service.

Information concerning the legal position regarding the renewal of insurance policies was sought by Mr L. I'onpard at a meeting of the Dairy Farmers' Union at Palmcrston North. When a premium was paid after the due date, he said, the holder of the policy wns usually informed that Ms cover still existed, but would that statement be maintained if a fire occurred in the interim? He did not think so. The position should be clarified so that there should be no misconception. Other members pointed out that if the premium wns not paid on the due date, the- risk of not being covered was entirelv that of the person who took out the policy.

The wintry weather experienced nt the Mount Cook, over the week-end seriously interfered with the sight-seeing of the delegates to the Newspaper Conference. A few of thfe delegates made the trip to the Tasman Glacier on Saturday, the weather being gloriously fine, but torrential rain fell all day on Sunday, and the bis? party of visitors had to take advantage of the splendi<l hospitality afforded at the Hermitage. Yesterday saw a continuation of the wintry weather, and the heavy rain again made tramping to the glacier area impossible. If the weather is favourable to-day most of the visitors will make the trin to the Teaman Glacier. The business of the conference will be concluded to-day. At the meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council last night Crs. C. G. McKellar and H. W. Wise said that thev had been asked to draw the attention of the Council to the fact that people living in the vicinity of Mandevillo street and Riccarton road were annoyed by the rowdyism which went on there late at night, and to ask n something could not be done to stop it. Cr. J. Wood said he was surprised that such a complaint should be made. The locautv referred to was as orderly as nnv other, he said, and if Crs. McKellar and Wise would go home a little earlier they would not hear the noises they complained of. (Laughter.) Cr. R. G. Malcolmson pointed out that Crs. McKellar and Wise had not said that they had heard any noises, but were merely referring to a complaint which had been brought under their notice. It was decided to ask the police to do what was possible to stop the nuisance.
