£26,000 AWARDED.

LAND TAKEN BY THE CROWN.

[THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, February 14. The Compensation Court reserved its decision yesterday afternoon, at the conclusion of evidence in the case in which Joseph Henrys claimed £40,000 compensation for land taken by proclamation at Quinton's Corner, opposite the gates of Parliament Grounds. Mr Justice Blair, in giving judgment to-day, said that the evidence given by the. valuers, who had disregarded the varying depths of the sections fronting on Lambton Quay, in rvriving at their prices per foot, had been of little if any assistance to the Court. The Court awarded in full compensation £26,000. As to interest, the question had been settled between the parties by the Crown agreeing to pay, and Henrys agreeing to accept, the rent of £37 per week from the date of the proclamation taTong the land down to date. To the assessors the Court awarded £125 each, both to be paid by the Crown. "I should say," he added, "that the award is not unanimous.''
