MECHANICAL MUSIC AT THE COMPETITIONS.
TO THE BDITOH OF THE PRESS. Sir, —Instead of considering, for the time being at any rate, the Christchurch Competitions to be the most important in the world, "Expression" thinks we should copy suburban Wimbledon. Because there, probably, the amount of business influence exerted was sufficient to secure the intrusion of mechanical against human players, we should • encourage art to give way to commerce here. The whole thing, of course, is an advertisement for the pianola —in the wrong place. I am wondering whether the agents for the Bings model got in with the committee before the Bangs agents knew anything about it. Have we such a thing about the place as a Society of Professional Musicians? If so, couldn't we wind it up to go a bit?— Yours, etc., TEACHER. Christchurch, February 12th, 1930.
