STOCK AGENTS FINED.
(mil ASSOCUTIOX HLISWU.) HASTINGS, February 13. A stock agent for Hoadley, Son and Stewart, Ltd., and a stock agent for the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association were each separately charged at the Court yesterday, on the information of the inspector for the S.P.C.A., with respectively omitting to v dag a sheep entered for sale in the yards, and for putting a sheep into the yards for sale while it was suffering from footrot. The defence was that no responsi- ! bility rested with the companies, who had only to sell the sheep, and had no knowledge as to the condition of the sheep until they appeared in the yards. * After evidence had been heard, the Magistrate (Mr Mowlem) convicted in both instances, saying that the cases were in the nature of a test as to the responsibilities of the firms and their agents. In order to allow of an appeal, a fine of £5 Is was inflicted in each case, with costs. Application was made for security for appeal.
